A Red Mass for Legal Professionals is traditionally celebrated in October to coincide with the convening of the United States Supreme Court. The Red Mass takes it's name from the red vestments worn to symbolize the tongues of fire that descended on the apostles at Pentecost.
The Mass is dedicated to invoke God's blessing on all those entrusted with the administration of justice and to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit while carrying out their responsibilities.
The 2020 Red Mass will take place October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More University Parish in Norman.
Following Mass, a reception will be held and guest will hear from Teresa Collette.
Teresa, a native Oklahoman came into the church at Saint Thomas More in Norman during college. She is a graduate of OU College of Law and among her many publications, she co-edited the book "Self-Evident Truths: Catholic Perspectives on American Law" with Michael Scaperlanda. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Collett to a five-year term on the Pontifical Council for the Family. Her appointment was renewed by His Holiness Pope Francis until 2016 when the responsibilities of the Council were assumed by the Dicastery for the Laity.
