Archbishop Coakley has instituted the first Priest Appreciation Week in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. During this week, which will start on Good Shepherd Sunday each year, parishioners and families are encouraged to do something to thank their priests from writing a thank you note to spending time in adoration. This year, the week will be April 25 - May 1.
A Prayer for Priests O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests. Give them deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love that will ever increase in the course of their priestly lives.
In their loneliness, comfort them. In their sorrows, strengthen them. In their frustrations, show them that it is through suffering that the soul is purified. Show them they are needed by the Church; they are needed by souls; they are needed for the work of redemption.
O loving Mother Mary, take to your heart your sons who are close to you through their priestly ordination and help them carry on the work of Christ in a world that needs them. Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength and, especially, help them know they are loved.
