Catholic alliance honors longtime Oklahoma educator

From Sister Catherine “Kay” Powers, former superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, was recognized recently by the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame.

Powers received the prestigious University of Notre Dame Sorin Award for Service to Catholic Schools on Tuesday during a special ceremony at Sacred Heart Catholic School in south Oklahoma City.


The award is named for the Rev. Edward Sorin, founder of Notre Dame, and is presented to honor those whose commitment to support, sustain and transform Catholic schools has shaped the lives of countless children, their families and communities.

Representatives from the alliance presented Powers the Sorin Award as part of the organization’s “Fighting for Our Children’s Future” national bus tour.
