Cristo Rey Oklahoma City Catholic High School will have an open house event on Saturday, Oct. 7, from Noon to 3 p.m. for potential students and parents interested in learning more about the school and visiting the facility. Spanish language tours will be available.
The Cristo Rey OKC facility is located at 900 N. Portland Ave. on the OSU-OKC campus. Applications are being accepted from students who will be in ninth grade in the fall of 2018.
Cristo Rey OKC recently hired Principal Cody Yocom, a Texas native with a history of leading high-performing charter schools in urban areas. Principal Yocom said the open house will be an opportunity for students and families to see if Cristo Rey OKC’s culture is right for them.
“Our goal is for Cristo Rey OKC to be anything but ordinary,” Yocom said. “We are emphasizing academic rigor, high expectations and hard work. We also believe in the importance of faith and serving the community that we are a part of. This will be a school for children who want to challenge themselves, prepare for college and reach their full potential as students and as people. We invite parents to come and visit our campus.”
Cristo Rey OKC is a private, college-preparatory Catholic school that will open its doors to its first class of incoming freshmen in the fall of 2018. The school is part of the national Cristo Rey network known for its unique educational model, exclusively serving children in low-income families.
All schools focus on a combination of rigorous academics and “real world” work experience. All Cristo Rey students receive financial aid as part of a corporate work-study program, funded by local businesses, where students work one day a week at the partner company for the entire year.
