Prayer in the Four Directions 2018

 

The second annual Prayer in the Four Directions conference was held on March 3, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Lodge in Guthrie. The retreat, “Being a missionary where you are,” was presented by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City’s American Indian Catholic Outreach and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Spiritual Center of Oklahoma.

The speakers were Mark Thiel, archivist for the Black and Indian Mission Office and Marquette University; Sister Theresa Chato, S.B.S.; Dr. Mary Soha, vice-postulator for Servant of God Antonio Cuipa and the La Florida Martyrs; and Sister Kateri Mitchell, S.S.A., executive director of the Tekakwitha Conference.

GUTHRIE – A steady drum beat echoed throughout the lodge as Sister Kateri Mitchell, S.S.A., of the Mohawk Nation, gently played a hand drum and shared the life and example of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha.

“In 1656, the heartbeat of this little Mohawk, Algonquin girl began,” Sister Mitchell said, “She was a beautiful little baby and her father, a Mohawk chief, called her sunshine.”

St. Kateri center opens at St. Gregory’s

SHAWNEE – The American Indian Catholic Outreach (AICO) for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City opened the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Spiritual Center of Oklahoma Aug. 28 on the campus of Saint Gregory’s University in Shawnee. The spiritual center is a ministry of the AICO. 

“The center is there as part of the new evangelization effort that Archbishop Coakley has instituted in the archdiocese,” said Deacon Roy, AICO coordinator. “We are there not only to evangelize, but also to re-evangelize those who have drifted from the faith.”
